Hey, I'm Philip Brown, an Elixir software engineer and entrepreneur based in the UK with over 15 years of experience building and scaling internet software applications and services.
I've been a software engineer for 15 years, building websites and applications on the Internet with experience of taking projects from zero to one, scaling startups, and managing legacy applications and services.
Since 2019 I've been working exclusively with the Elixir programming language and Phoenix framework to help startups build scalable and maintainable applications.
I have particular experience in building and scaling backend services in Elixir using the Phoenix web framework, using Phoenix LiveView, and building and running machine learning applications using Nx and Axon.
I had the pleasure of working with Philip, a highly skilled Elixir engineer, for three months. In that time, I was consistently impressed with his ability to quickly grasp the intricacies of our project and become a productive member of the team.
Not only is Philip highly skilled in his field, but he also has a great personality and temperament, making him a valuable asset to any team. I highly recommend Philip for any Elixir-related projects.

Safety inspection software for the work at height industry.
I worked with Phil for 4 years, during which time he built a complex API/application from scratch, then continued to add features to support constantly changing business requirements.
Phil was always considerate of the current and future needs of the business, and saved us heaps of time while onboarding new engineers, due to his approach to clean code and thorough documentation.
Phil has constantly developed his own technical ability by learning new languages and techniques.
Phil's understanding of the technology landscape, as well as the tech industry and adjacent businesses, is vast, and he would be a great help to any business looking for a brilliant engineer.
At SuperHi, we were looking for a talented engineer to help us scale up and optimize existing code along with architecting brand-new features, and Phil was the perfect person to work with on this.
Alongside his talent for creating best-in-class, clean code, he was a delight for me and everyone on the team to work alongside. His attitude towards creating the best solution for our business needs was fantastic.
We initially worked with Phil on simplifying a complex Elixir ordering system to make it easier for our technical support team to work with customers. Phil came up with an optimized ordering system that the rest of our engineering team could quickly build on top of with simple APIs that Phil implemented, and it improved our support response time drastically.
It's rare to find an engineer with both a knack for high-quality coding and a focus on user and business needs, so I highly recommend Phil to any team looking for someone to help them build internet businesses.
I'm currently available for remote contract, consultancy, and fractional CTO opportunities. If you have an Elixir project that you need help with, get in touch.
